Lots of authors have great ideas and fantastic stories to tell and share, but when it comes time to take it from the old think box and put it into writing, things often get a little muddled. Let's face it, grammar and structure are not everyone's forte and a poorly written story, regardless of how great it may be otherwise, will probably never see the light of day, let alone a publisher's office. Editing though usually costs a lot of money, with some businesses charging well over one hundreds GBPounds per hour, and that is just way out of the reach of many authors who need to have their work redone to a standard that will be acceptable to a publisher. Then there is the problem of copyright theft: Some editors take it upon themselves to just take credit for the overall work simply because they edited it. Not to mention that most editors want to have everything in hard copy, which adds to the cost and inconvenience. Option 1 After evaluating and accepting the assignment, I will edit your finished manuscript to a standard that I think will work, making modifications to the structure and so on as I see would be beneficial overall, and then return it to you with the modifications and suggestions highlighted in different colours so that you may decide to accept or not to accept. I will conduct all communications electronically. No need for hard copies and expensive courier costs. I will not hold claim to any part of the copyright or any ongoing royalties that may become due to you. I will charge you a per page ( A4, 1.5 line spacing, 12 point Times New Roman) fee of EURO 15.00, with a guarantee to have the work completed in a specified time. This can be paid progressively in advance. Option 2 After evaluating and accepting the assignment, I will enter into an agreement with you to edit the work as per option 1, but rather than charging you a fee per page on a progressive basis, we agree on a lump sum price (paid in advance) for the overall manuscript that would be substantially lower than those detailed in option 1, but to compensate I retain an agreed percentage of the royalties that will be due to you and for the life of the publishing contract. Option 3 After evaluating and accepting the assignment, I will edit the work as per option 1, and at no initial cost to you apart from the evaluation fee as detailed below, but to compensate for my efforts we enter into an agreement whereby I share equally the advance, the credits, the copyright and the royalties that will be due to you. It is my privilege to accept or reject the option you choose. Evaluation Fee Whatever option you would prefer to negotiate, to cover the time I would need to spend to evaluate the assignment and prepare a report (and later an agreement), you would advance an initial non refundable evaluation fee of EURO €250.
